Closure at Drumahoe, on the A6 Glenshane Road at its junction with Tirbracken Road, between Friday 8th November at 1900hrs and reopened Monday 11th November 2019 at 0500hrs.

During the closure a signed diversion will be in place on the A6 from its junction with B118 Tamnaherin Road via A2 Clooney Road to Altnagelvin Roundabout and vice versa.

The work planned over this weekend includes deep excavation activity. SWS JV have carefully designed and planned the work involved, taking into consideration the location, time and date for the works to take place.

The culvert we are installing requires an excavation 6m depth under the A6 road and the concrete pipes are 1.5m in diameter. When carrying out work of this nature large machinery is used, this large machinery and large excavation require the full width of the road and areas adjacent to the road as working areas, which leaves insufficient room for traffic to pass by safely. Therefore, it is essential to close this section of the road to complete the work in a safe manner.

The same area has a requirement for a watermain to be installed and watermain connections to be undertaken. Utilising the closure for the culvert, the watermain works and connections will be undertaken concurrently. This will require additional planning and resources, but reduce future disruption to the traffic.
